The new Spray Gun works pretty doggone well! I submit the pictures of the following craters (yeah, that super-lightweight, uber cheap, easily warped Moonscape set from GW) done up with the following steps:
1) Spray gun with Codex Gray
2) Spray highlight with Fortress Grey
3) Spray ink with Devlan Mud (slightly thinnned)
4) Spreay ink with Badab Black
5) Flock
6) Bob's your crater!

I'm pretty happy - overall, I could crank out a set of these in a day (mostly drying time between sprays - I did the whole set of 5 in a couple days due to interference from work and other annoyances) and there's more control in the gun than it would seem at first run. Not a dual-action airbrush, but for big stuff, I see this being really useful. Only downside is the canned air chilling down VERY quickly during use, necessitating two cans and periodic swaps to allow one to warm back up. Next project with it will be the Temple of Skulls to see how it does on more detailed setups.

Cross-posted a couple times, I think :)

[mood |lazylazy]

Well, i finally managed to make a successful piece of scenery. I found a really old imperial bastion model in my loft. Somewhere along the line it had gotten wet and was as such the consistency of well... wet card. I decided that i really like it (If you can, find a  picture of the original as it did look awesome) and as built this construct to replace it.

Imperial BastionCollapse )
As a side note, has anybodyu seen the skull pits on the realm of battle board. i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for making them that didn't involve buying the board or thousands of skeleton boxed sets. I want to make some plague pits for some themed nurgle terrain.

well here is the current project. it's one of the heaviest and potentially most expensive pieces of terrain i have made. most of it is copper pipe fittings. you can see the old paint job on it. and that i added a few bits. they are just plastic sprue from old airplane models. might add a few more bitz on and then repaint.

Corrugated Card bases [Oct. 1st, 2008|06:06 pm]
Terrain Builders

[mood |curiouscurious]

I recently started gaming again after a long reprieve. I had a full urban scenery set and coming back to it now i've realised what a monumentally stupid set of bases I was using as they were all either corrugated card (which has warped) or destroyed/useless Cd's (Which are quite limited in size). I want to build some better terrain but don't really have a wide variety of tools or access to materials. Can anybody give me any recommendations for sturdier bases that won't bend up on larger terrain pieces?
